The Christmas season officially kicked off in Neligh this weekend, and we were proud to be a part of the festivities. More than 500 people lined Main Street on Sunday for the Lighted Parade, which was followed by the lighting of the Courthouse lawn and games, food and a visit by Santa at the America Legion. Carhart Lumber sponsored the free hot dog feed, and the Neligh-Oakdale FBLA sponsored games throughout the evening. Nick Krohn Photography gave each child a free 3x5 with Santa. Mr. Claus will make one more stop in Neligh on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Neligh Public Library from 6-8 p.m.
Sponsored by the Neligh Chamber of Commerce, Sunday's event was the official holiday kickoff for the Northeast Nebraska community.
Many stores were open Saturday and Sunday, offering discounts and specials to customers. Many will have extended store hours this holiday season, including Sundays from 1-4 p.m. Some will be open until 7 p.m. Dec. 18-20 and Dec. 23, to accommodate those who work late.
TK Theater is again offering free movies at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday before Christmas. No ticket is required. Click here for their schedule. The Christmas lighting contest judging will be Dec. 14-15. The categories are business, religious and residential. Sponsored by City of Neligh, the winner receives $100 off their electric bill.
